OF QUARTERBACKS AND QUESTIONS

What if quarterback Kevin Hogan succeeds? Then what happens?

I’m not talking about him morphing into the Browns’ long sought-after franchise passer? I don’t think there’s any chance of that happening – or at least it’s slim.

I’m talking just about the next several games – Sunday’s visit to Houston to play the Texans, followed by “home” contests against the Tennessee Titans and then the Minnesota Vikings, in London, heading into the bye week. What if Hogan plays pretty well and, just as importantly, the Browns follow suit, perhaps stealing a game, or even – gulp! – two, which would be a huge deal since they’re 0-5?

Does Hogan then become the more firmly entrenched starter going forward, leaving the experiment with DeShone Kizer, a second-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, in the dust?

And even if that happens, would the Browns still be unsure enough about Hogan to go back into the draft next year and use their first pick, which could be the No. 1 overall selection, to take a shot at yet another possible “franchise” quarterback?

Is this going to be one of situations in which more will be more, with the Browns continuing to pick quarterbacks at, or near, the top of the draft year after year until they get it right?

Yes, if that’s what it takes, for until the Browns get a top-flight quarterback, they’re never, ever going to have a chance to have a top-flight team. It’s just that simple.

Hue Jackson was hired as head coach to do all this. Can he do it? Will he been given enough time to do it?

I like Jackson. I think he can do the job. I’ll say the same for Kizer.

But for Kizer to get back into the game, literally and figuratively, Hogan has to mess up. And I’m getting very tired of Browns quarterbacks messing up.

This has to end. Can it? Will it – soon?

So many questions, the answers to which will start – or, in this case, continue – to be revealed on Sunday.
